Paying for GroupFlier

As of April 4th, anyone who has created a group will need to upgrade to a paid account in order to keep it active. You can get more detail and reason for the change here.

A couple changes have been made to the site. We have dropped public groups. You'll also notice a new tab among "Your Groups" called "My Account".

"My Account," shows you if your account is trial or full, active or suspended, and your current balance. You can also upgrade your account from trial to full and add funds to your account.

I would like to thank you for trying our service and would appreciate your continued patronage.

Listen! to Your Groups

Today GroupFlier unviels Conference Calling and Voice Mail for your groups. Here is how to do it:

Conference Calling

To start a conference call dial your group number and press 0 to start the conference. The group members will get a text message inviting them to join the call. Anyone can start a conference call for a chat group, but only the group creator can start a conference call for a broadcast group. A conference can have up to 40 participants.

Voice Mail

To send a voice mail to the group dial your group number and press 3 to record a message. The group members will get a text message alerting them of the new voice mail. A voice mail message goes to everyone in a chat group. In a broadcast group a voice mail message from the creator goes to everyone, however a message from a member goes only to the creator. You can have multiple voice mail messages at a time. You can delete a voice mail message at any time.

GroupFlier Featured on SlapStart

"Today I came across a true masterpiece. I'm not talking about a Mona Lisa that garners hoopla just for having an allegedly mesmerizing half-a-smile. I'm talking about an innovative solution and top quality product. I'm talking about GroupFlier." —SlapStart

Steve Gibson's review of GroupFlier for SlapStart, which features stand-out startups, is descriptive, funny, and glowing. We apreciate when our fans can get wrapped up in the unique benefits of using GroupFlier the way Steve goes on in this article.

"But hold the horses folks. We never received any sort of login information, never had to invent a password and type it in twice just to be sure- none of that stuff. GroupFlier's reprieve from the normal online registration routine takes the form of going to their website, entering your number, and they'll text message you a pin number."

As Steve concludes in his review, GroupFlier is excited to be attending SXSW this coming weekend! Join "TechCocktail SXSW" to get real-time updates as we get closer to the event.

The recent demonstrations in Cairo, Egypt have captured the attention of the world. GroupFlier is following Wael Ghonim, a Google Executive in North Africa. Ghonim has become an unofficial spokesperson for the revolutionaries in Cairo, although he says, "I dont' want this to be about me. Because in reality this is not about me and because I don't want to be the face on this." in an interview with CNN's Ivan Watson. The social climate in Cairo and Ghonims' advocacy for cooperation has prompted GroupFlier to create a group dedicated to the issue.

Text Your Way To Better Health

By Stephanie Habif, EdD, MS, CHES

During the recent Health 2.0 Developer Challenge a colleague said to me, "How can we give people a chance to use their mobile phones to share information about their diet so they can take photos of their food and share only with the people they choose? Facebook and Twitter are too public; we need to allow for smaller, personalized groups. We need something simple."

I told him about GroupFlier. You can easily handpick your group members, share photos, and keep an ongoing text dialogue about the food you're eating. When you tell your group about what you plan to eat or what you are eating, receive their feedback, and find out what they're eating too, it can help you better your diet.

The uses for GroupFlier are many and varied. Our friends at goFISHn.com share just one way that GroupFlier has helped them:

Fisherman

"One neat application for GroupFlier is for Ice Fishermen. They often head out on the ice as a group, but they tend to spread out when they fish. Keeping in touch can be an issue, especially when it's windy and freezing. Who wants to leave their shelter? That's where group texting comes in handy."

Group Creators Get More Control

Dear Group Creators,

This release gives you greater control over your groups. Group creators can access the new features by logging into "Your Groups," clicking on a group name, and selecting "Settings."

New Settings

  1. As before, you can change the group name.
  2. Now, you can set notifications for when group members join or quit the group. Disabling these notifications is useful for groups who are constantly changing or if you don't really care who is in your group.
  3. Another feature allows the group creator to be the only sender in a group. This feature is great for promotional uses. (So you can actually talk to your scremaing fans.)
  4. Also, you can disable the *who command for group members to allow for a little more privacy. As group creator you will still be able to see and manage the group. With this feature, you can give your group a more personal feel.
  5. Finally, we allow you to restrict the *add command to only the group creator. No one else can add people, but you with this command.

We are constantly working to tailer "Your Groups" to your needs. Try out these new features and let us know how you prefer to use GroupFlier at support@groupflier.com.

Sincerely,
Morris Panner, CEO

P.S. We will soon be launching the iPhone App for GroupFlier,
so keep your eyes open.

Social Text Co. Groupflier Raises Seed Round, Lets 'Old Phone Live Again'

By Deborah Gage
11/24/2010

Groupflier this week launched its mobile social texting software and confirmed a $500,000 seed round, raised last summer from Novak Biddle Venture Partners.

Co-founder Morris Panner declined to give the company's valuation. Novak Biddle General Partner Phil Bronner has joined Panner on the board of Groupflier, which is operated by TownFlier Inc.

Groupflier's software enables users to send text messages to groups that they create and to follow the conversation threads of texts, seeing who said what and when. It works across several devices, which Panner views as an important competitive advantage.

"Not everybody can afford or wants a smart phone," he said. "Our motto is, let your old phone live again."

Eventually, Groupflier will make money from selling premium services to businesses and contextual ads that will target consumers based on their locations -- if someone has just played tennis, maybe they'd like a sandwich, Panner said. For now, though, Groupflier is focused on attracting users and has about 1,000 so far.

Groupflier is Panner's second venture-backed company -- he sold his first one, OpenAir Inc., to NetSuite Inc. in June 2008, for approximately $26 million in cash, according to VentureWire archives.

Group Texting Is Here

With our launch of GroupFlier, you can easily set up a free group to share texts among the members.

It is easy and it meets the real need of how to do a text in a group.

We call the experience "social texting." It doesn't matter what kind of phone or device you have or what service plan you have, you can use GroupFlier to message friends clearly and easily.

Here is our screen shot – it says it all:

Texting used to be hard to do in a group. It was creepy getting those mass texts and you never know who was in the group. Now, with GroupFlier, you can see who is speaking and keep a group on track.
